The chatbot, named “GOV.UK Chat,” is being developed using generative AI technology in collaboration with OpenAI’s GPT-4o. Initial feedback from the trial has been remarkably positive. Approximately 70% of participants have reported that the chatbot serves as a useful tool. Technology Secretary Peter Kyle highlighted that this could address persisting issues with outdated bureaucratic processes that currently cost businesses considerable time and effort.

In response to this, the government has engaged the AI Safety Institute to establish rigorous safeguarding measures, ensuring the chatbot operates reliably and securely while addressing these accuracy concerns.
