Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson refutes allegations from CNN, asserting that his opponents are using AI to fabricate false evidence against him amid ongoing scrutiny in the gubernatorial race.
North Carolina Lt. Governor Denies Controversial CNN Report, Claims AI Manipulation
RALEIGH, NC – Mark Robinson, the Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina and a key Republican candidate in the state’s gubernatorial race, has emphatically denied allegations reported by CNN. Robinson labelled the claims as “salacious tabloid lies” and accused his political adversaries of using advanced digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to fabricate false evidence against him.
In a statement, Robinson vehemently denied incendiary comments attributed to him, which allegedly included identifying as a “Black Nazi” and expressing enjoyment of transgender pornography. The Lieutenant Governor argued that such statements do not align with his character and suggested that one of his opponents invested a considerable sum—reportedly one million dollars—to tarnish his reputation using AI.
The claims have put Robinson under a microscope, prompting scrutiny even from the tech community. An experienced computer programmer, with over two decades of experience at major corporations, weighed in on the matter. He explained to the Rhino Times the significant technical challenges involved in altering historical posts on websites not owned or controlled by the perpetrator. According to the programmer, achieving such alterations would require either the collaboration of high-level administrators or an exceptional hacking operation capable of breaching top-tier security systems, akin to those used by large platforms like Amazon or X (formerly known as Twitter).
Among the disputed posts, some were allegedly made on Nude Africa, a website possibly not possessing elite security measures. However, other platforms mentioned include Amazon and X—major sites with robust security systems. The programmer noted the immense effort such a manipulation would require, spanning across various platforms and potentially taking years. He questioned why anyone would invest so heavily in discrediting Robinson, particularly when pre-scandal poll numbers indicated he was trailing by 11 points in the gubernatorial race. Post-report, Robinson’s gap widened to a 17-point deficit behind Democratic rival Josh Stein.
The programmer remarked, “Why wouldn’t they go after a higher, more compelling target, if someone were able to do something on this scale?”
In addition, he pointed out that high-level administrative rights to alter data on major platforms are rare. Even within his own company, where he is a trusted employee of two years, such privileges are not extended to him.
The challenges of such a digital fabrication were further echoed by the artificial intelligence tool, ChatGPT. When consulted, the AI engine commented on the immense difficulty of falsifying digital footprints and maintaining consistency over several years. It emphasised that a forensic analysis of digital traces—including IP addresses, timestamps, and geographical data—would be essential to verify the authenticity of the posts.
ChatGPT elaborated, stating, “Faking multiple detailed biographical links over several years would be challenging due to the complexity and consistency required in such a fabrication.” The AI tool noted that online interactions leave digital footprints traceable across different platforms, and manipulating these traces without creating discrepancies would be extraordinarily difficult. The necessity for consistent writing style, tone, and alignment with Robinson’s biography, combined with multiple layers of personal data, heightens the complexity of fabricating such evidence without detection.
CNN has asserted that the disputed posts were associated with an email address linked to Robinson and contained consistent biographical details over a lengthy period. While ChatGPT acknowledged that theoretical technological capabilities could enable such fabrications, it stressed that achieving this accurately to avoid detection would demand significant resources and expertise.
The ongoing controversy has legal implications. Should Robinson’s claims of the CNN report being false hold merit, he could potentially seek substantial damages from the network through a defamation lawsuit.
Readers are left to digest these intricate details as the digital age continues to intersect with political dynamics, raising fundamental questions about the authenticity of online information and the burgeoning role of AI.
