ECL Announces State-of-the-Art AI Data Centre in Houston
Houston, Texas – ECL, a prominent player in the sustainable technology sector, has revealed ambitious plans to construct a fully sustainable Artificial Intelligence (AI) data centre in Houston. This cutting-edge facility, designated the ECL TerraSite-TX1, is set to become a beacon of advanced technology and sustainable energy solutions.
The first tenant scheduled to occupy the ground-breaking site is Lambda, an AI-focused company. Initially, the ECL TerraSite-TX1 will offer 50 megawatts (MW) of capacity in its first phase. The delivery of this initial phase is anticipated by the summer of 2025.
ECL’s vision extends far beyond the first phase. The complete data centre, with a planned capacity of 1 gigawatt (GW), is projected to demand an estimated investment of approximately $8 billion (£5.98 billion). This substantial funding is sourced from ECL and its financial partners, marking one of the most significant investments in the data centre sector to date. Additionally, ECL has provided indications that the facility could potentially expand to 2 GW, contingent on future customer requirements.
The new AI-focused data centre will be designed with state-of-the-art technology to support the development and deployment of advanced AI systems. A distinctive feature of the ECL TerraSite-TX1 will be its reliance on hydrogen power. The facility will be powered by hydrogen supplied through three separate pipelines, illustrating ECL’s commitment to sustainable and renewable energy sources.
“While others talk about delivering off-grid, hydrogen-powered data centres in five, ten, or 20 years, only ECL is giving the AI industry the space, power, and peace of mind they and their customers need, now,” said Yuval Bachar, co-founder and CEO of ECL.
