Drawing on these suggestions, she input further details into Midjourney, receiving imaginative decor options, including wrapping cubicle drawers in coloured paper—a detail that could feasibly be adapted for home kitchens as well.

Midjourney, unlike ChatGPT, does not generate conversational outputs. Therefore, it required detailed prompts to refine the visual elements required to craft a chilling yet work-appropriate decor scheme. Kane also utilised Midjourney’s image blending feature, merging a photo of her current workplace with the AI-generated image to envision a transformed cubicle. The result, while not perfectly superimposed, offered a practical execution that was much easier to achieve.

Boosting the effectiveness of these tools, Kane suggests taking photos of the space intended for decoration. These can be uploaded to Midjourney, allowing the tool to blend the image with the desired decor, generating a customised final look. She advises experimenting with various themes to strike the right tone and using descriptors that match the anticipated audience. For instance, including “child-safe” in the prompts for a home frequently visited by trick-or-treaters can be particularly beneficial.
